Parent Responsibilities

Class Attendance

A positive experience for parents and their children at Little Hands depends upon parent participation. Regular attendance at day classes ensures the successful operation and growth of Little Hands.

Parent Education

Little Hands is committed to providing education to parents, and evening classes are a required part of our curriculum. Classes are fun and interactive and are designed based on parent feedback and input. We work together to find speakers and select topics that address the needs of Little Hands families. Each semester parents attend one evening class and one All School meeting.

Job Descriptions and Job Preference Form

Little Hands is a volunteer-driven organization, and each Little Hands family is responsible for a job that takes approximately 15-20 hours over the course of the school year, as well as one day of school maintenance. Job participation is very important to the school and families must complete their jobs in order for their Co-op Deposit to be reimbursed. Little Hands thrives on the effort & dedication of our parents. Their hard work truly makes a difference at our school!

Please know that we make every effort to assign jobs that fit each parent’s time, talents and preferences. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and commitment.

Examples of jobs include making play dough, repairing fixtures, inputting data, serving as class liaison, and working on the social or fund-raising committee.

  • Job Descriptions 2010-2011. Review this document to determine which job(s) might interest you. If there is a job that you believe you are uniquely qualified for, please consider sending an email to the board member who oversees that position.
  • Job Preference Form. The job preference form is mandatory for the participating parent and helps us assign jobs that fit each parent’s time, talents and preferences. This form is available online as part of our online registration process. If you need help finding the form, please click here.

Maintenance

Each family is responsible for helping maintain the school and is assigned a single three-hour maintenance day per year. On maintenance days, parents thoroughly clean the school to make it a safe and healthy environment for all. The Co-op Deposit required at the beginning of the year is reimbursed to those in good standing once the family has worked a maintenance day and completed the required job hours.

Extension Classes

Parents are invited to attend optional extension classes which focus on the growth and development of young children and related parenting issues. Teachers or guest speakers lead discussions on specific topics, such as sleeping, nutrition, positive discipline, sibling relations and choosing a preschool.
