Organization

Little Hands is a non-profit, non-sectarian parent co-operative. We are a state-supported Education Center, partially funded by Sequoia Adult School. Little Hands is a school for parent education and child socialization.  Parents and children attend class together.  Our goal is to provide a support system for parents through an educational program that teaches child growth and development, communication and parenting techniques.

Little Hands recognizes and appreciates that each parent and child is unique.  Our goal is to help you develop a parenting style appropriate for your family.  We hope to enhance communication within the family, support you in your role as a parent, and meet specific needs of your child.

• Board of Directors - Thirteen parents serve as voting officers on the Board of Directors at Little Hands.  The board is chosen in March and starts their year of service in May.
  
  
• Committees - To ensure the successful operation of the school, each family has a job and serves as part of a "committee" which reports to the Board of Directors. 
  
  
• Staff - Our school employs a Director and several teachers.  All teachers have at least a four-year degree and have a California Teaching Credential issued by the State Department of Education.  The Director and teachers are responsible for the educational program, while parents manage and maintain the school. 
  
  
• San Mateo Council - Little Hands is a member of the San Mateo Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools, Inc., a non-profit organization of cooperative preschools on the Peninsula.  These schools are organized by parents and operated in cooperation with qualified staff.
  
  
• Consultant Service - Little Hands pays a yearly fee to join the Consultant Service Service through the San Mateo Council.  All parents, staff members, and Alumni (for a small annual fee) are eligible for the service.  The consultants include psychologists, social workers, marriage/family/child counselors, and attorneys.
