in-class parent participation & DUTIES (weekly)
Regular attendance at day classes provides the optimal experience for both parent and child. This allows the child to adapt to and embrace the routine and environment, and it allows the parent to build community and a deeper understanding of child development through regular class discussions.

At each class, parents serve either as "supervisors" or "observers", alternating each week:
  • Supervising parents are in charge of a specific area or activity and remain at that station.
  • Observing parents observe the children, record the children's activities and then meet with the teacher, as a group, in class for 30-40 minutes to share observations, gain new information, and discuss concerns about their children in particular and parenting in general.

More details on how parent roles and rotations work can be found in the FAQs.
JOB HOURS (15 hours)
Each family is asked to contribute 15 job hours (or, minimum 8 hours if joining after January 1).  Job preferences are requested as part of the registration process, and we make every effort to assign jobs that fit your time, talents and preferences.  Please learn about the jobs in detail in the Job Descriptions prior to registration.

Families will need to complete and submit the Job Completion Form by May 13th to record the required hours to receive a refund of the Maintenance Co-Op Deposit.
EVENT volunteering (5 hours)
Each family is required to put 5 hours towards one of the social or fundraising events held during the school year. Families joining after January 1 may request that volunteer hours be prorated to no less than 2 hours towards an event.  See details on the events here.
SATURDAY MAINTENANCE WORKDAY (3.5 hours)
Each family is assigned a single three-and-a-half (3.5) hour maintenance day per year. On maintenance days, parents thoroughly clean the school to make it a safe and healthy environment for all. The Co-op Deposit required at the beginning of the year is reimbursed to those in good standing once the family has worked a maintenance day and completed the required job hours.

All Maintenance Days take place on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. All parents are asked to arrive on time. There will be a coffee and snack break approximately halfway through.

EvENING CLASSES (3 total)
Little Hands is committed to providing education to parents, and evening classes are an important part of our curriculum. Specifically, attendance is required for:
  • Fall Orientation
  • Two (2) evening parent education classes (one in the fall and one in the spring)
Classes are fun and interactive and are designed based on parent feedback and input. We work together to find speakers and select topics that address the needs of Little Hands families.

Parents are also invited to attend optional extension classes in our Parenting Together Series which focus on the growth and development of young children and related parenting issues. Teachers or guest speakers lead discussions on specific topics such as sleeping, nutrition, positive discipline, sibling relations and choosing a preschool.
